Steve Ayon is the owner and principal developer of Usable Data where he provides servicess to private, public and non-profit organizations.

Steve currently serves as the Data & Analytics Administrator at Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) where he reimagined the California Schools Dashboard using Tableau. He has been invited to present his work to the California State Board of Education and has co-presented with the California Department of Education (CDE) at the California Educational Research Association (CERA) conference.

He currently serves as a member of Tony Thurmond’s, California State Superintendent of Schools, transition team committee on data collection.

This website originally began as content for his master’s thesis project designed to improve stakeholder engagement through the use of data. The project takes data from the California School Dashboard, calculates the equity gap that exists between student groups and visualizes it an manner that makes it easy to identify schools and student groups with the greatest need.

Prior to RCOE:

Steve has worked at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.’s North American Parts Logistics Division where he led multiple kaizen projects, trained associates on Total Quality Management (TQM) and the Toyota Production System (TPS). He developed applications, analysis, and reports that supported logistics operations and procurement planning.

At California State Polytechnic University, Pomona’s (Cal Poly Pomona), Steve served as the Business Intelligence Architect, where he did end-to-end development and maintenance of the student, budget and finance data warehouse and reporting applications.
